Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the General Overseer of the Salvation Ministries, has reaffirmed that Christians should avoid being with the impoverished because Jesus hates poverty.
Ibiyeomie recently received outrage online for supporting the wealthy and disparaging the poor, according to Naija News.
In a subsequent statement, Ibiyeomie asserted that the Holy Spirit validated his position on poverty in spite of the criticism, using scriptures to back up his assertion that poverty is a mindset.
Similar to avoiding sinners, the clergy counseled believers to aid the impoverished but to avoid interacting with them.
“Some people called me and said the internet was on fire,” he said. Despite my lack of interest, I checked out of curiosity. Then I asked the Holy Spirit to tell me if I’m wrong and I would bear the responsibility.
“He was dictating God’s word to me verbatim in the bathroom, he said ‘you’re not wrong, you’re right.’ “How?” I asked. “I became sin for humanity, true?” he asked. Yes, I replied. “Do you like sin?” he said. “No,” I replied. He asserted that you cannot be friends with a sinner; you can only bring others to Christ. He claimed that everyone becomes enraged when a believer associates with unbelievers. Therefore, everyone should be upset if a believer associates with the impoverished.
“I was made poor,” he remarked. in order to become wealthy. So I am not a person of poverty.
“You can assist the impoverished, but avoid hanging around with them,” he remarked. You are not necessarily impoverished just because you lack money. Poverty is a mindset. He also handed me scriptures. He said ‘I paid a price for sin, poverty and sickness’. Why are you willing to tolerate poverty but rejecting sin? And those who rejects poverty in keeping with God’s word, these three things will never be identified with you.”
