Hon. Philip Agbese, the House of Representatives’ deputy spokesperson, has denied rumors that lawmakers are planning to overthrow Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and the House leadership when plenary reconvenes later this month.
Agbese characterized the allegations as speculative and a calculated effort to sow division in the Green Chamber in an interview with reporters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Members are still united behind the Speaker, he said, emphasizing that the reported complaints about hiring staff were false. He made it clear that the National Assembly Service Commission, an impartial organization, handles hiring rather than the Speaker or the 10th House leadership.
Members’ trust in Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen cannot be compromised. Agbese stated, “The Speaker has shown fairness, respect for colleagues, and dedication to members’ welfare and constituency development since his emergence.”
He pointed out that Speaker Abbas has already established two special committees to investigate the issues brought up, with former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu serving as their chairs.
Agbese promised that national priorities like constitutional review, insecurity, economic reforms, and budget implementation would be the main focus of the House’s September 23 reconvening.
