Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has revealed that his administration will not give up on bringing justice to the victims of the deadly attack, three years after the horrific attack on worshippers at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo, which is the headquarters of the Owo Local Council Area of Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized that security is the state’s top priority and that dozens of survivors are still dealing with the attack’s scars, despite the fact that the terrorist killed scores of worshippers.
Speaking at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Akure over the weekend, the governor made this statement in honor of Most Rev. Jude Arogundade, the Bishop of the Ondo Catholic Diocese, who was celebrating his 15th Episcopal Anniversary and 35th Priestly Ordination Anniversary.
On June 5, 2022, attackers carrying advanced rifles and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) stormed the church during a morning mass, killing at least 40 worshippers.
According to Aiyedatiwa, security forces have detained suspects connected to the attack through cooperation between the federal and state governments.
The governor claims that the DSS is presently prosecuting the arrested suspects, which include Al-Quasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Idris Omeiza, Momoh Abubakar, and Abdulhaleem Idris.
Let us unite against the power of terror and other criminal activities as we pursue justice for them (the victims).
He declared, “We will find the strength to mend broken hearts, heal the wounds, and ensure a safer Sunshine State in unity and love.”
With 75 Hilux cars outfitted with newly acquired, cutting-edge security equipment, the governor insisted that his administration has continued to make significant investments in security infrastructure.
