Godswill Akpabio, the Senate president, has denied reports that he was seriously ill while overseas, claiming he was only in London for a brief vacation.
Akpabio appeared healthy and energized when he arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja early on Monday morning.
He was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.
Speaking to journalists on arrival, the Senate President said, “There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation.”
According to reports on social media in recent days, Akpabio was admitted to a hospital in London.
However, the Senate President brushed those rumors aside as the whims of gossipers.
He explained that following what he called a busy legislative year, he traveled to London for a short respite after attending the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to July 31.
Additionally, Akpabio assured Nigerians that when the National Assembly reconvenes, there will be more active legislative engagements.
In addition to assuring citizens of the additional advantages of democratic governance and closer cooperation with the executive and judiciary, he said that a robust Nigerian delegation to the Geneva conference was essential.
