The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, confirmed the commission is totally ready for the Anambra State Governorship Election on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The INEC Chair guaranteed a peaceful, transparent, and credible process for citizens and stakeholders. Professor Amupitan gave this assurance during an inspection of the Commission’s state office in Awka, ahead of the Stakeholders’ Meeting on Monday, November 3, 2025. Prof. Amupitan declared, “Our responsibility is to the people of this nation. We are fully prepared to deliver an election that is fair, credible, and reflective of the people’s will.” He urged all stakeholders to support a seamless process. The chairman also warned against “attempts by vested interests to discredit the process,” stressing that INEC remains focused on its constitutional mandate. Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, provided an update, confirming all non-sensitive materials are distributed to the 21 Local Government Areas. She added that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is fully configured, tested, and ready for deployment. Agwu stated, “We have left nothing to chance… every necessary step has been taken to ensure a smooth, credible and technology-driven election.” She also confirmed generators are deployed to ensure uninterrupted power supply at critical locations. Both officials stressed the critical need for collaboration with political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, and the media to ensure election success. Prof. Amupitan emphasized, “Transparency and partnership remain the bedrock of our credibility.” As part of the review, the INEC Chairman, accompanied by National Commissioners (Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, Malam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Professor Abdullahi Zuru, Mr. Sam Olumekun, Prof. Sami Adam, Dr. Baba Bila, and Prof. Sunday Aja), also visited INEC offices in Oyi and Awka South Local Government Areas to assess final preparations.
