According to the APC Youth Liberation Movement, a group within the All Progressives Congress branch in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s defection would greatly increase the party’s prospects of winning the next election by a landslide.
The organization, which is under the party’s Directorate of Youth Organizations, also underlined that Governor Adeleke’s joining the APC is a major plus for the progressive party and a calculated move toward winning the 2027 elections.
Comrade Ajasa Oluwaseun, the group’s State Coordinator, emphasized in a statement that Governor Adeleke’s political power and influence cannot be disputed, pointing to his impressive electoral record and growing support across the state.
“If we pause to consider Senator Ademola Adeleke’s political journey,” he said.
“Even though our party controls both the state and federal levels, he defeated the APC candidate in nine of ten local governments in the 2017 Osun West Senatorial bye-election.
He seriously challenged our candidate, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, in the fiercely contested 2018 governorship race.
He made a triumphant comeback by 2022 and eventually defeated incumbent Governor Oyetola to take Osun State’s helm.
“Given his strong political credentials and the achievements recorded so far under his administration, any move by Governor Adeleke to join the APC should be seen as a welcomed development.
“It is well within his constitutional right to associate with any political party of his choice, and we as a youth group believe his defection would be a great asset to the APC ahead of 2027,” Ajasa added.
The group also denounced Senator Iyiola Omisore, the former APC National Secretary and deputy governor of Osun State, for his disparaging remarks in which he called Governor Adeleke a “orphan.”
The group denounced the statement as regrettable, undiplomatic, and unsuitable for a leader who should be promoting harmony among progressives.
“Senator Omisore’s word choice is not only offensive but also polarizing at a time when everyone should be working together to reposition the APC for future election successes. The statement said, “Leaders must put the party’s strength ahead of petty politics.”
