Governor Seyi Makinde has been urged by All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Oyo State’s Ibadanland outer city zone to use caution when allocating the state’s resources.
They pleaded with the governor to refrain from what they called wasteful spending and poor financial management.
The projected refurbishment of the Agodi Government House, which is anticipated to cost an astounding N63.5 billion, is one of the state government’s projects that has recently been the subject of controversy.
The N14.3 billion payment for the Instrument Landing System (ILS) for the Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, which is presently undergoing renovations, was also mentioned.
The stakeholders pointed out that the same project had previously received N42 billion in full payment, with the state government releasing an extra N10 billion subsequently.
At their quarterly meeting on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat on New Ife Road in the Egbeda Local Government Area, the party leaders released a statement outlining their stance.
According to the communique, the APC stakeholders expressed dismay over what they described as Governor Makinde’s consistent disregard for due process, warning that such practices were detrimental to the long-term interest of Oyo State.
They stated, “Oyo State cannot be classified as financially buoyant, despite the fact that Governor Makinde receives over N22 billion from federal allocations in addition to nearly N10 billion generated internally every month.
“With a public debt hovering around N500 billion, it is alarming that the state government continues to embark on projects that do not align with prudent fiscal planning. These funds, especially those accruing from the removal of fuel subsidy, should be saved or invested in sustainable development for the future.”
Chief Lekan Adeyemo, Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe (JP), Alhaji Rasaki Akilapa, Alhaji Sule Suara, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Hon. Kunle Jenrade, Comrade Moshood Erubami, Hon. Muniru Adebayo, Alhaji Yinka Folarin, and Bashorun Billy Ogundele were among those who signed the communique.
The National Assembly representative for the Oyo Central Senatorial District, Senator Yunus Akintunde, was also in attendance during the meeting. He went as a sign of support for the party’s leadership.
The speech given by a coalition of party loyalists operating under the name APC Peace Advocates was a significant highlight of the gathering. Under the leadership of Prince Niran Adeyoju and Chief Wale Ohu, the organization stressed the value of cooperation, love, and unity among party members.
They called on all parties involved to cooperate in order to put the APC back in control of the state by 2027.
