Since thousands of his supporters from all 14 local government areas declared they were leaving his structures and swearing allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has lost the support of his political base in Zamfara State.
The 14 chairmen of Marafa’s political structures collectively announced their defection at a meeting in Gusau, making the decision public.
Abubakar Saddiq, a close ally of Marafa, spoke on their behalf, stating that supporters from the 147 wards throughout the state had chosen to leave because the movement was no longer meeting their needs in terms of development or politics.
Without results, we cannot continue to participate in politics. In order to gain from democracy and advance social progress, we participate in the establishment of a democratic government.
He charged Marafa with inciting internal strife within the APC, which weakened the party and helped it lose the Zamfara elections in 2019 and 2023.
“The APC has failed twice in this state due to internal crises that have centered on Senator Marafa,” Saddiq continued.
He claims that they have made the decision to rejoin the APC in order to collaborate with other party members on Zamfara’s development.
He emphasized that without peace and unity, progress is impossible and clarified that Senator Marafa is now by himself.
In August, Marafa resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as you may remember. Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central as a senator from 2011 to 2019, claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s “use-and-discard” style of leadership was the reason he quit the party.
