Prime Minister Netanyahu visits other grieving families to offer his condolences to the family of dead IDF commander Asaf Hamami. The family of Colonel Asaf Hamami, one of the three Israeli soldiers whose bodies were just returned from Gaza by Hamas via the Red Cross, had a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Netanyahu expressed his sympathies “on behalf of himself, his wife, and the entire people of Israel,” and he “embraces the dear family during this difficult time,” according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.Clara Hamami, the mother of Col. Hamami, thanked the prime minister, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and the country’s security services for their efforts in bringing her son’s remains home to be buried. Colonel Hamami, 40, was the commander of the Southern Brigade of the IDF Gaza Division. On October 7, 2023, during the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, he was killed while battling Hamas militants close to Kibbutz Nirim. After being transported to Gaza, his body stayed there until November 2, 2025, when it was recovered. His parents, his wife, and their three small children survive him. Netanyahu is also anticipated to meet with the families of the two other slain soldiers whose remains were returned with Hamami’s, Staff Sergeant Oz Daniel and Captain Omer NeutraAs part of the ongoing truce agreement between Israel and Hamas, which is being mediated by the United States, the Prime Minister’s Office reiterated Israel’s commitment to repatriating all hostages, both living and dead, who are currently being held in Gaza.
