With this win, the Ivorians will be participating in the World Cup for the first time since 2014 and for the fourth time overall. The Teranga Lions defeated Mauritania 4-0 to surpass DR Congo and take first place in Group B. They finished the season with 24 points, one more than the Leopards, who defeated Sudan and are now eligible for the playoffs. In addition to Ghana, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, Cape Verde, and Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal have also secured automatic tickets.
