Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former vice president, has voiced his grief and indignation over the recent spate of murders in Plateau and Borno states, characterizing the incidents as a reflection of the deteriorating security situation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Atiku denounced the recent attack in the Zike community, in the Kimakpa area of Kwali district, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, where at least 47 people were slain, in a forceful message posted on his official X account on Tuesday.
Following another fatal attack in the Bokkos Local Government Area, the event took place on Sunday.
The return of violent attacks in Plateau State, especially the latest killings in Zike community in the Kimakpa area of Kwali district, Bassa Local Government Area, where at least 47 innocent people were killed on Sunday, saddens and worries me greatly.
“This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the deteriorating security situation in our nation, especially considering that it occurred just days after a similar attack in Bokkos LGA,” Atiku stated.
The former vice president accused Tinubu of not upholding the primary obligation of protecting lives and property, and he blamed the incident on the Federal Government.
Because of the Tinubu-led administration’s incompetence, these Nigerians had to lose their lives, which is sad and completely inexcusable.
Protecting people and property is the top priority for every government. Atiku said, “Unfortunately, President Tinubu has failed these citizens and still fails them.”
He also expressed concern about the ongoing terrorist attacks in Borno State, pointing out the growing death toll and the rebels’ gain of territory.
As more proof of a worsening security scenario, Atiku referenced worries expressed by Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi.
“I also denounce the growing number of terrorist assaults in Borno State, which have caused militants to lose both lives and land, according to Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi.
He continued, “These alarming events highlight the complete breakdown of the current administration’s security architecture and policy.”
Atiku claims that because known terrorists have not been prosecuted, their actions have become more audacious nationwide.
He called for prompt and forceful legal action to bring offenders to justice.
