The Labour Party’s Edo State chapter has claimed that Mr. Peter Obi, its 2023 presidential candidate, rather than Barrister Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman, is to blame for the crisis engulfing the party nationwide. At a press briefing in Benin City on Monday, Hon. Elizabeth Ativie, the party’s state chairman, made this statement in response to some accusations made by Ms. Precious Oruche, also known as “Mama P,” against Barrister Julius Abure.
Ativie claimed that during the assault, Ms. Precious Oruche falsely accused Barrister Abure and the leadership of the Labour Party in her posts.
According to her, the police have declared Abure wanted for alleged forgery, and the aforementioned Ms. Precious Oruche accused him of frustrating Nigerians.
The LP’s state chairman claimed that the main reason for the party’s crisis was Mr. Peter Obi’s inability to quell nationwide protests following the primaries.
She further claimed that the party’s National Working Committee decided to zone the ticket to the Edo Central senatorial district in the Edo State 2024 gubernatorial election.
According to her, the decision comes after the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) zoned their governorship ticket to the senatorial district.
Ativie went on to say that Peter Obi allegedly traveled to Benin to support Barrister Olumide Akpata as the party’s candidate for governor rather than carrying out the NWC ruling.
“First, we want to state clearly here that Peter Obi created the problem in the Labour Party,” she said.
He and Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti organized the fateful and unlawfully enlarged stakeholders meeting in Umuahia on September 4, 2024, with the express intent of disbanding the party’s legitimately established National Working Committee through unethical means.
The party has been factionalized ever since that nighttime gathering.
Unfortunately for them, nothing came of all the purported promises and inducements that the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, would comply with their wishes.
He’s gone crazy because he’s desperate to control the party’s soul. The party leadership has shown him a great deal of kindness; we have worked hard for him, even giving up a bicycle as a party donation; we have risked our lives to canvass the Sambisa area during the campaigns; and we have supported him through the legal battles despite the pressure we were under.
However, biting the fingers that fed him was the best way to express gratitude. For this reason, we have argued that Peter Obi is incapable of bringing the vision of a new Nigeria to life due to his lack of competence, character, and ability.
