Sikirulah Ogundele, the faction chairman of the PDP’s Ogun State chapter, has revealed his intention to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogundele blamed his planned defection on the ongoing instability at the national secretariat in Abuja and claimed that the PDP’s present leaders are “transactional.”
Additionally, he charged Oladipupo Adebutu, the 2023 governorship contender, with converting the PDP into a state chapter of the Kensington Adebutu Foundation.
Ogundele declared his plan to switch to the APC in a statement that the DAILY POST was able to receive on Friday. He referred to Adebutu’s 2027 run for governor as heartless and an insult to the collective intelligence of Ogun people.
He stated, “It is assuming that Ogun voters are naive for Adebutu to want to run for the 2027 PDP governorship ticket.”
“People are smart enough and not naive to vote for someone whose elder brother will be finishing the two eight-year terms as governor in 2027. Governor Dapo Abiodun is from the same Iperu-ward 3 in Ikenne Local Government Area within the Ogun East Senatorial District.”
Given the leadership crisis engulfing the party over the National Secretary position, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye are vying for the post, Ogundele stated that PDP has nothing left to survive the 2027 general election.
“People are leaving the PDP because of the uncertainty in the party, and the party leaders are not handling the crisis well,” he continued.
“Given that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate former governor and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, were able to transfer the entire Delta State party structure to the APC, and Governor Umo Eno in Akwa-Ibom State did the same, why shouldn’t Ogundele do the same now that the PDP is in ruins?”
