Barcelona sporting director Deco has reportedly identified 24-year-old Premier League star Sandro Tonali as a potential replacement for midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong has been linked with a move away from Barcelona in recent weeks.
According to Fichajes, Deco views Tonali, who currently plays for Newcastle United, as the ideal successor to the Dutchman.
De Jong has not yet agreed to a contract extension with the Blaugrana, and it is scheduled to expire in June 2026.
The story went on to say that Barça has long been concerned about De Jong’s excessive salaries.
In the summer of 2023, Tonali reportedly paid €58.9 million to join Newcastle from AC Milan.
He has made 40 appearances for Eddie Howe’s team this season in all competitions, tallying five goals and three assists.
