In Ajah, Lagos State, residents of the Ajiwe community have urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to halt the demolition of their homes for infrastructural projects until they are fairly compensated.
In order to make room for the Gas Link pipeline and Green Line Rail projects, which are essential parts of the new Lagos Airport being built in the state’s Ibeju Lekki neighborhood, the landlords and renters claimed that their property had been scheduled for demolition.
According to the DAILY POST, during the weekend, the impacted landlords and tenants protested on the Abraham Adesanya expressway.
Signs like “We say no to Gas Link and Green Line Rail projects demolition of our properties without compensation,” “Our properties cannot be demolished without compensation,” and “Compensate us” were among the signs they put on display.
Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, Kehinde Alakoso emphasized the need to take into account the human cost while stating that the projects fulfilled a legal requirement for an overriding public purpose.
He stated, “We have written to the state governor, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, and other pertinent individuals in the state.”
