Governor Hyacinth Alia cannot control Assembly lawmakers, according to the Benue State House of Assembly, which also emphasized that Aondona Dajoh, the Speaker, resigned on personal grounds and that the governor had nothing to do with it.
Elias Audu, the spokesperson for the Benue Assembly, made this statement on Monday in response to inquiries on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief.”
Lawmakers, according to Audu, are “independent-minded” and cannot be “coerced” into taking any action.
The Assembly is unaware of any interest the governor may have had, regardless of its nature. We’re not sure. The Speaker was carrying out his duties when, perhaps as a result of some choices, he thanked the audience for their support and declared it was time to leave.
“I firmly believe that the Speaker’s resignation was motivated by personal principles. There is no fighting in the Benue Assembly if there are political overtones, even though we are playing politics under a political regime. You can’t force them because they are self-reliant,” Audu stated.
According to BASEMEDIA NEWS, Dajoh submitted his letter of resignation on Sunday, stating that it was in the state’s best interests and that he was acting in good faith.
