Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, has warned traditional leaders throughout the state to cease granting mining permits on their lands without first obtaining permission from the government.
The governor emphasized that the government “will not tolerate any form of illegal mining in any part of the state and traditional rulers must desist from issuing mining permits in any part of the state without the approval of government” during a Thanksgiving celebration for his Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) appointees, an area considered to be one of Benue’s major mining hubs.
He also threatened to prosecute anyone found to be disobeying this order.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing Kwande LGA’s infrastructure, announcing plans to construct additional roads to make it simpler for people to travel and transport agricultural products.
Regarding security, the governor pledged to keep working with local and federal authorities to expel armed herders from the state.
He said that people who support criminals or plot attacks on communities with the help of violent herders would “be treated as enemies.”
“Politics should be centered on development and the welfare of the people,” the governor said, thanking President Bola Tinubu for “his support and love for Benue people.”
Additionally, he encouraged residents to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration drive and urged his Kwande appointees to remain in close proximity to their constituents.
