Borno: The 2023 PDP candidate for deputy governor leaves the party to join the ADC

Honorable Saleh Ahmed Kida, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 candidate for deputy governor of Borno State, has left the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

A letter dated July 4, 2025, containing his resignation, was sent to the PDP Ward Chairman in Kokani, Kida Ward, Hawul Local Government Area.

“With immediate effect, I humbly offer my resignation as a PDP member.

“I express my gratitude for the honor and chance I was given while attending the party,” he wrote.

The PDP Chairman in Hawul LGA, the Deputy Chairman (Southern Borno), and the PDP State Chairman all received copies of the letter.

Political analysts think the defection is a part of a larger opposition realignment ahead of the general elections in 2027, which aims to challenge the ruling party’s stronghold in Borno and beyond, even if Kida did not specify his motives for departing.
