Four local government areas are subject to a movement restriction enforced by the Kano State Police Command. The restriction will be in place from 12 p.m. on Friday until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The impacted local governments are Bagwai, Shanono, Ghari, and Tsanyawa, according to a statement released on Thursday by SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
“From 12 midnight on Friday, August 15, to 6 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025, there is a strict restriction on the movement of motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles.
Since it’s election day, only vehicles providing essential services—like ambulances, fire trucks, and the vehicles of electoral officers and authorized election observers—will be exempt, he stated.
He claimed that the Kano State Police Command, led by CP Ibrahim Bakori, had taken all the required steps, working with other security agencies, to ensure a successful by-election in Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency and a peaceful, free, fair, and transparent rerun election in Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency.
“The command wants to notify visitors and residents of the affected Local Government Areas Ghari, Tsanyawa, Bagwai, and Shanono of guidelines and restrictions in order to maintain law and order during the elections,” Haruna stated. He stated that only eligible voters would be permitted to visit polling places during the by-election, and that only INEC-accredited agents would be permitted entry.
It is strictly forbidden to carry any kind of weapon. People will not be permitted to loiter in or near polling places, and they will not be permitted to wear or carry anything bearing the logos or identities of political parties,” he stated.
State security groups, such as vigilante organizations and KAROTA employees, would not be allowed at polling places, the statement added.
