A Chinese expatriate, who had been held captive for more than three months in the kidnappers’ custody, has finally been released. He was abducted by armed individuals on September 5, 2025, at the BUA Cement Plant located in Okpella.
DAILY POST reports that the Chinese expatriate, identified only as Mr. Wang, was seized when gunmen assaulted the BUA cement facility, an attack that resulted in the fatalities of eight personnel belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
A statement issued by Moses Yamu, the Public Relations Officer for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed that the expatriate secured his release on December 2, 2025, at 11:30 pm, in an area within Kabba, Kogi State.
Yamu indicated that the victim’s release was achieved through continuous technical and tactical operations jointly executed by the Edo and Kogi State Police Commands, augmented by assistance from local hunters and vigilante groups.
He noted that the Command extended its commendation to all collaborating partners involved in the successful rescue effort.
The Command did not provide any information regarding whether a ransom was exchanged for the expatriate’s freedom.
Nonetheless, it was ascertained that the expatriate departed Nigeria immediately following his release and has subsequently returned to China.
The Command, however, did not offer an update on the ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspected kidnappers.
