Hon. Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives and the member representing the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, has presented strong arguments in favor of establishing a new state and more local government units in Zone C of Benue State.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Constitutional Review Public Hearing for North Central B, Agbese told reporters that the proposed reorganization would increase accountability and transparency at the local level, enhance service delivery, increase economic opportunities, and bring governance closer to the people.
He reiterated his unwavering support for the formation of Apa State and the construction of new local government areas in Enone, such as Edumoga Ehaje and Edumoga Itso from Okpokwu; Okam and Owukpa from Ogbadibo; and Avovo, Ari, and Ufia from Ado.
He asserted that these efforts would guarantee that governance becomes more responsive to the needs of the populace and unleash the constituency’s enormous potential.
“We can close the gap between our people and governance by establishing new local governments and Apa State, guaranteeing that they get the resources and attention they are entitled to,” he stated.
“Government is more successful when local administrations are located closer to the people. He clarified that more responsive governance would result from the public having greater access to their leaders.
Rep. Agbese insisted that the movement for Apa State will provide a foundation for faster development, allowing the area to face its unique obstacles and seize its potential with more independence and committed resources.
“Our region would experience growth and development as a result of Apa State. With the establishment of Apa State, we would be able to realize our full potential because we possess both natural and people resources.
In the past, our area has been overlooked when it comes to the distribution of resources and the advancement of infrastructure. With the autonomy and resources that come with statehood, Apa State will give us a platform for faster growth and enable us to take advantage of our special chances and challenges,” he said.
When asked about potential obstacles, Agbese acknowledged that there would be difficulties but expressed hope that they could be overcome with teamwork.
“We are aware of the difficulties involved in establishing new states and municipal administrations. But I think we can overcome these obstacles and create a better future for our area if we are determined, diligent, and have the people’s support,” he stated.
He urged all stakeholders, including traditional institutions, community leaders, and fellow citizens, to support the project.
He stated, “Let’s take advantage of this constitutional review opportunity to reshape our future and make sure that our constituency receives the resources and attention it deserves.”
