Castro Ezama, a former special adviser on education to former Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade, has warned young people in the state not to participate in violent altercations on political behalf.
In a statement, Ezama bemoaned the entrenchment of poisonous rumors, jealousy, and petitions, particularly among the political elite, and warned that the trend is pushing the state further back.

Ezama recalled a terrible event that happened during Ayade’s administration, stating that the hostile atmosphere resulted in the murder of Eshu Ade Egbelo, a former Special Adviser on Inter-Governmental Affairs, who was killed for endorsing a candidate of his choosing. The man, who was merely a Cross Riverian, died tragically after going out to support the candidate of his choice. “This ‘thing’ we call politics has cost us too many people,” he bemoaned.
The leader of the former students also denounced the surge of hate campaigns on social media, claiming that they have caused more harm to society.

Many people who ran against Governor Bassey Otu during the general elections in 2023 now hold sensitive positions in his administration, according to Ezama.
According to him, this is an example of “practical love” that ought to be supported in order to foster harmony and unity.
He cautioned young people against being mindless followers of politicians, emphasizing that although supporters fight violently, leaders frequently make amends and continue to enjoy benefits together.

Ezama made a plea to the political elite for guidance and moral behavior. “You are expected to lead us in character and education at your level,” he asserted.
