John Obi Mikel, a former Chelsea midfielder, said that goalie Robert Sánchez caught him off guard during Sunday’s Club World Cup final versus Paris Saint-Germain.
Mikel had previously criticized the Spaniard and demanded that the club sell him. But after yesterday’s game, he has changed his view about him.
In front of US President Donald Trump, Chelsea shocked the football world by defeating PSG 3-0 at MetLife Stadium.
Mikel had encouraged the Blues to hire a new goalkeeper before the start of the new Premier League season before the game.
Sánchez, however, won the best goalkeeper of the tournament award and assisted the Blues in defeating the Champions League winners.
Mikel’s opinion of the Spain international has changed as he kept three clean sheets during the campaign.
“I’m surprised, he had a really good game today,” he said to DAZN. Give credit where credit is due. He did had a successful game today. This save—strong hands, excellent save.
That’s what a goalie should have. I am so incredibly pleased for him.
“Hopefully, Sánchez will be much better.”
