Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has responded to former vice president Atiku Abubakar’s departure from the party.
Atiku withdrew from the PDP two days earlier, claiming that the party had strayed from its core values.
Atiku was among those who came together to establish the opposition alliance that accepted the African Democratic Congress, or ADC, before he resigned.
There are hints that Atiku would run for president under the ADC after resigning from the PDP.
Damagum responded to the news by stating that the PDP will be more powerful without Atiku.
Speaking to reporters in Bauchi on Friday, the PDP acting national chairman said.
He revealed that Atiku has already defected from the PDP to other political groups.
Damagum emphasized that the PDP is used to such behavior and added that his recent resignation was consistent with his previous behavior.
Additionally, he maintained that Atiku’s actions and departure do not represent a serious threat.
