The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has publicly rejected a resolution by Plateau State APC leaders to block Governor Caleb Mutfwang from joining the party.
The Plateau leaders, during an October 17 meeting, had unanimously endorsed a motion moved by Barrister Festus Fuanter opposing Mutfwang’s potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reacting on Tuesday, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, argued that those opposing Mutfwang’s entry are acting out of selfish, personal motives, not the party’s interest. Zazzaga reiterated his group’s call for Mutfwang to defect from the “drowning” PDP.
The Forum further claimed that many of the Plateau APC stakeholders who voted against Mutfwang were ineffective in the last election, failing to deliver their own polling units for the APC, and are now merely seeking federal appointments under President Bola Tinubu. As an example, the Forum noted that the former APC governorship running mate lost his unit and ward by a wide margin but is spearheading the anti-Mutfwang campaign.
Zazzaga emphasized that the focus should be on winning the governorship seat for the party, not on rewarding those who “did not vote for Tinubu, they voted for Peter Obi.” The Forum asserted that their push for Mutfwang, which they confirmed is supported by influential figures in the Presidential Villa, is about adding value to the party.
The Forum suggested that appointments should be based on electoral performance, even promising to publish polling unit results after the next election so President Tinubu “will know who is who.”
