A passenger on a United Airlines flight from Lagos to Washington, D.C., experienced a medical issue mid-flight, forcing the airline to make an emergency return on Tuesday.
The captain of flight UA613, which had left Lagos at around 12:10 a.m., made an urgent request for any medical staff on board to help an ailing passenger more than 90 minutes into the flight.
The captain quickly emphasized that saving lives was the airline’s first priority when he told the passengers that the plane would be returning to Lagos.
Around 2:26 a.m., the plane made a safe landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where emergency personnel were waiting to treat the passenger. The passenger was taken off the plane right away for urgent care.
United Airlines canceled the flight after the incident.After disembarking, passengers were told they would be staying at a hotel while more arrangements were made.
