Emmanuel Petit, a former Chelsea midfielder, has informed the club that they have not resolved their issue with the acquisition of Liam Delap.
The ex-international player from France believes that for the Blues to compete with top clubs, they need to purchase wingers during the summer transfer window.
He believes that signing Liam Delap does not address their primary issue in the squad.
In a statement to talkSPORT, the Frenchman claimed that Chelsea’s wingers are not up to par and that improving this aspect of the team should be their primary objective.
He stated that Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson are always under pressure, as the wingers fail to score or deliver assists.
He said, “I don’t think Liam Delap will be the solution. When you examine the top teams like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, their wingers are the ones who consistently make the difference.
“While most people are concentrating on the number nine at Chelsea, I believe the wingers are the bigger issue.”
He stated that the players in the Blues squad lack the ability to compete against top European teams in the UEFA Champions League.
Cole Palmer was Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League last season, scoring 15 goals and 8 assists.
Nicolas Jackson, the club’s leading striker, managed to net only 10 goals and provide 5 assists
