At its 50th annual national conference at the Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa State, the Nigerian Society for Animal Production (NSAP) urged the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development to set up species-specific livestock research institutes in each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The group stated in a communiqué signed by NSAP President Prof. Olaniyi Babayemi and Secretary Dr. Folasade Jemiseye that such institutes would foster specialized research and development in animal agriculture, aligned with regional strengths and species.
The society further advised that the proposed institutes be bolstered by regular interactions among researchers, policymakers, and producers through workshops, community-based seminars, and scientific conferences.
