The portrayal of Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), the former military president, as a statesman has drawn criticism from human rights advocate and attorney Dele Farotimi.
“Celebrating Babangida with such titles only serves to normalize the “evils” he claimed the former leader visited on Nigerians,” Farotimi wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.
Not exposing these vile jerks for what they are heare contributese evils they have inflicted on the populace, and it is this mutual affirmation tactic that has kept the evil alive. You can stop deceiving yourself, IBB is not a statesman,” he wrote.
His response came after Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the former president of the African Development Bank, congratulated Babangida on his birthday and praised him as one of Nigeria’s “foremost elder statesmen.”
As he celebrated his 84th birthday, Adesina wished the former Head of State continued good health and commended his “patriotic fervor, devotion, and commitment to Nigeria’s peace, unity, and progress.”
Babangida, who ruled Nigeria from 1985 to 1993, recently celebrated his 84th birthday, according to BASEMEDIA NEWS.
