FG begins payment of N44,000 minimum wage arrears to ex-corps members

The Federal Government has started paying former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members their N44,000 minimum wage arrears.

An earlier commitment related to the recent increase in the monthly allowance for corps members from N33, 000 to N77, 000 is fulfilled with the start of the payment.

Those who finished their service prior to the new allowance going into effect earlier this year are eligible for the reimbursement.

Former corps members have expressed their relief and thanks on X (previously Twitter) by confirming receipt of the cash.

@Kingpin_black1 was one user who wrote: “Thank you NYSC. President Tinubu, thank you. Nigeria will once more be a great country.

@pharmacist_shezzy, another user, posted: “44k don land.” NYSC doesn’t carry last. God bless Nigeria.

Likewise, @ifeoluwa_X posted: “I just received my alert. I nearly terminated my account with NYSC. Thank you, FG.

Online enthusiasm has been generated by the payment, which is largely regarded as a fulfillment of the government’s previous pledge. Many people have praised the action as an indication of renewed accountability and trust.
