Following the recent building collapse at Ebute Meta, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, or LASEMA, has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting people and property.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, stated that thorough investigations had begun to determine the cause of the collapse while speaking at the scene of the incident on Monday night. He claims that material testing and other technical evaluations by pertinent authorities will be part of the investigation.
“The protection of lives is our top priority, and we are committed to preventing similar tragedies from happening again.
For this reason, we have gathered all relevant agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He urged citizens to assist the government in its endeavors by adhering to building codes and promptly reporting dangerous buildings, emphasizing that without community cooperation, enforcement cannot stop disasters.
The Permanent Secretary stated that while the number of casualties is still unknown, emergency personnel were present and operating professionally and cautiously.

“So far, six people have been rescued alive, while four have unfortunately been confirmed dead. Our focus is on saving lives, maintaining order, and ensuring a coordinated response,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu also disclosed that heavy-duty equipment had been deployed to the site and that rescue operations had continued non-stop since the collapse occurred on Friday evening.
He emphasized that the Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, remains committed to strict enforcement of building codes and regulations. However, he urged residents to complement government action by adhering to approved standards.
The safety of Lagos residents is paramount. We are calling on everyone to remain calm and allow the rescue operation to proceed without disruption,” he added.
