In Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, dozens of former Niger Delta agitators peacefully demonstrated on Wednesday to demand more financing for Tantita Security Services Limited, a private security company run by Tompolo that is recognized for having stabilized Nigeria’s oil output.
“Prior to Tantita, oil production was less than one million barrels per day,” the demonstrators, who were assembling under the banner of former agitators from phase 3 of presidential amnesty, said in a statement signed by their spokesperson, Theophilus Ebiama, and provided to PUNCH Online on Thursday.
Today, we are almost surpassing the OPEC quota because of Tantita’s efforts to secure the country’s pipelines. To maintain this progress, the government has to increase financing.As the demonstration came to an end, the former protesters voted in favor of Dennis Otuaro, the administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, leading the initiative itself.
They praised the programme for providing jobs and skills training to Niger Delta youths, contributing significantly to regional development.
“Under Otuaro, the PAP has transformed lives, empowered our youths, and fostered peace. We stand firmly behind him and Tompolo in their efforts to uplift our region,” the spokesperson added.
The ex-agitators reiterated their commitment to peace and called on all stakeholders to support the ongoing efforts to develop the Niger Delta, urging an end to divisive actions that undermine regional stability.
