Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has warned that the ongoing violence and bloodshed in Northern Nigeria have placed the region under a spiritual curse, emphasizing that the crisis should now be treated as a national emergency. Speaking at the Nigeria Investment and Industrialisation Summit (NNIIS) 2025 organized by the Northern Elders Forum in Abuja, Dogara said the situation had surpassed normal socio-political issues.
He noted that the extensive violence amounts to human bloodshed, which, from a faith perspective, signifies a curse. Dogara expressed deep concern over the severe insecurity and poverty affecting the region, cautioning that Nigeria’s overall progress would be hindered unless urgent action is taken.
He stressed that the development of Northern Nigeria is not just a regional issue but a national priority. Dogara called on northern leaders and citizens to stop relying on external aid and instead take control of their future by adopting bold and transformative measures.
