Mallam Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe, who is running for president in the upcoming Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) elections, has urged that the electoral process be delayed to honor the 22 Kano athletes who tragically lost their lives in a car accident while returning home from the recent National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The former Chairman of Gombe State Football Association characterized the athletes’ deaths as a national tragedy, stating that moving forward with elections into the AFN Board while the Nigerian sports community is still mourning the deceased would be insensitive, inhuman, and inappropriate.
