After a week of exciting play between ten Nigeria Women play League (NWFL) clubs, the Nasarawa Amazons have won the first-ever Governor Douye Diri Female Pre-season Football Tournament. The preseason football competition, which took place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, gave the different NWFL clubs a chance to get ready for the upcoming season, which starts next monthAt the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, the Nasarawa Amazons defeated the host Bayelsa Queens 6-5 on penalties following a scoreless draw in regulation time. Joy Igbokwe of the Nasarawa Amazons was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament (MVP), and the Bayelsa Princesses lost to the Bayelsa Queens 5-3 on penalties in one of the semi-finals, while Bayelsa Princesses lost to the Nasarawa Amazons by a single goal. In his remarks, Pastor Robin Apreala, the chairman of the Bayelsa Queens and the chairman of the local organizing committee, described all of the competitors as winners and stated that the event was not about winning but rather a way to improve the teams.
