The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to take immediate action to alleviate the State Environmental Protection Agency’s (NASEPA) staffing shortfall, highlighting how it is impairing the agency’s ability to fulfill its mandate.
The appeal was made in Lafia on Monday by Hon. Mohammed Omadefu, the chairman of the House Committee on Environment, when the agency was in town for its 2025 Second Quarter Budget Performance Review.
Omadefu clarified that the purpose of the oversight session was to evaluate the agency’s performance during the reviewed period.
He said the agency cannot function efficiently without sufficient staff, especially when it comes to addressing the state’s escalating environmental problems.
“I implore His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule, to give NASEPA’s manpower shortage top priority.
“This step is essential to increasing productivity and guaranteeing the state’s sustainable development,” Omadefu stated.
The chairman of the committee also promised the management that they would have legislative backing to fulfill their mandate.
Prior to this, Mr. Iliyasu Adeka, the General Manager of NASEPA, outlined the agency’s primary responsibilities, which include fumigation of public and private areas, environmental protection, and public health safety.
However, he acknowledged that the agency’s operations are still hampered by understaffing, which continues to be its biggest problem.
