Following a prior unsuccessful endeavor, the renowned Nigerian actress-turned-politician Funke Akindele has disclosed her political aspirations.
remembers that in 2023, the actress served as the deputy candidate to Abdulazeez Adediran, who was the Lagos State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
After their loss to Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Funke Akindele removed all posts related to politics from her social media account.
In response to her loss during her most recent interview on the inaugural live edition of the ‘WithChude’ podcast, the actress — who had been silent on political issues since 2023 — revealed her plans to run again.
She stated: “I require assistance. I have to return the favor. For that reason, I entered politics. I got involved, witnessed aggression and yelling, and subsequently began to observe female politicians such as Mummy Abike Dabiri and others. The manner in which they talk, and instill respect and authority. I’m like, you also go, you’re able to do it.
And I stood there and talked. I found out from there that one must be bold, courageous, and strong. What would happen would happen. Only fear will position you somewhere. Thus, I learned all this through my political involvement, and I became familiar with many figures. I received a greater education and gained more knowledge. I’m reading more and learning more about my country and state, you know. When I want to speak, I speak with statistics data. Thus, I’m pleased that I entered the political arena. And ask me whether I will do it again? Oh, yes”.
