Femi Falana, a human rights attorney and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has demanded that the Federal Government dismiss Rivers State Sole Administrator Retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas right away, claiming that he has violated constitutional procedures and disregarded President Bola Tinubu’s orders.
Falana referenced the official Federal Government Gazette in a statement issued on Thursday, which provided a detailed description of the conditions controlling the Sole Administrator’s activities.
“The Sole Administrator shall operate on the basis of such Regulations that may, from time to time, be issued by me,” the paper cites President Tinubu as saying.
“It is well known that President Bola Tinubu has not issued any regulations for the operation of the Sole Administrator,” Falana noted.
Ibas has continued to appoint and dismiss individuals who were first chosen by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in violation of this explicit direction.
Falana denounced the Sole Administrator’s conduct as illegal and a flagrant disrespect for President Tinubu’s authority, according to Naija News.
He added, “The Sole Administrator has made his appointment even more unlawful by disregarding President Bola Tinubu’s directives. The removal of the sole administrator should happen right now.
Falana’s call for action comes amid an ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has seen the legitimacy of key appointments and the balance of power between the state and the federal government come under intense scrutiny.
The situation continues to fuel political debates and legal challenges, as questions surrounding the legality of the Sole Administrator’s appointment and the functioning of state institutions remain unresolved.
