David Ibiyeomie, the General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, has compared people who criticize others to cars that are stopped on a highway, gathering dust as others continue on.
Only the sluggish have time to attack others, the cleric said, addressing his congregation.
Using powerful imagery to hammer home his message, the angry clergyman claimed criticism is a symptom of sloth and stagnation.
“When you’re not making progress, you turn into a critic,” he remarked.
“If you park your car on a highway where cars are speeding and stand like this one day, you’ll notice that everyone is speeding.” Do you know why? You’re not moving. However, you won’t observe someone speeding if you’re in the automobile because you’re running yourself.
“The reason people are occupied with criticism is because they are parked and not moving! You won’t have time for anyone if you’re also jogging.
“For them to listen to me means I’m very important,” he continued, taking a daring jab at doubters. Now, do you understand what I’m saying? I’m still listening to Oyedepo; who will I listen to next? Since they can’t tell if I’m not listening, they actually listen to me regardless of how they critique me.
Ibiyeomie didn’t stop there. He called on his congregation to cut off toxic people and mind their own path.
“So my friend, stop hanging around stupid people! And if nobody is attacking you, you’re not making progress. Check everybody they attack—it’s people making progress,” he added.
He mocked idle gossipers who pose as moral watchdogs but lack substance in their own lives:
“Even in church, check people who are not making progress, they criticize everybody: ‘Thief! You see that one? She is a prostitute! I know, don’t tell anybody oo, I know!’ Okay, you that is holy, how come you are poor? How can a prostitute be richer than you who is holy? Something is wrong with you,” he added.
