According to sources, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has stated his belief that Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho would continue to get better as he becomes accustomed to life with the Scottish champions.
The Hoops’ hero on Sunday was Iheanacho, who coolly converted a penalty in stoppage time to give them a thrilling 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
“I was very happy for Kels,” Rodgers continued.
“I believe the last penalty he took for me was during our Community Shield victory over Man City at Wembley, and he also tucked that one away.”
With the supporters and everything else, that was a significant moment for him. He has great moments ahead of him, and he will only become better as he gets fitter.
Benji Nygren had wanted to step up, but the manager’s instructions were plain, and Rodgers disclosed that habitual penalty taker Arne Engels was off the field.
