In northern India, authorities reported on Tuesday that at least 14 people had died and six more had been hospitalized as a result of overnight consumption of hazardous whiskey.
According to Maninder Singh, a Senior Police Officer, seven people have been taken into custody on suspicion of supplying the poisonous alcohol.
According to Singh, the individuals who were arrested allegedly provided alcohol to five villages located approximately 19 kilometers (12 miles) away from the northern Punjabi city of Amritsar.
He claims that in the wake of the incident, the police have begun a blitz to dismantle the local network of phony booze supply.
In the meantime, the local government has sent doctors to the villages to check on those who consumed the tainted alcohol, according to Sakshi Sawhney, a senior government official in Amritsar. He claims that in order to prevent the death toll from rising, those exhibiting symptoms are being moved to hospitals.
However, investigators have not revealed which components they believe were responsible for the illnesses and fatalities.
In India, individuals sometimes die from drinking tainted liquor that is produced locally since it is less expensive, especially in rural areas.
