In Oyo, Federal Employees Go on Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Wages [Photos]

Comrade Andrew Emelieze, the National Coordinator of FWF, and Comrade Itoro Obong, the Secretary-General, said that workers in Oyo State have launched an indefinite strike because they have not received their wage awards, which have been unpaid for five months. The workers, represented by the Federal Workers Forum, announced the strike at the Federal Secretariat in Ibadan, the state capital, and promised to continue until the federal government complies with their demands. The statement read, “As previously agreed, we, the federal workers in Nigeria, commence an indefinite protest nationwide today, 22nd April, 2025, to press home our demands for justice for federal government workers in Nigeria.” They added, “We had earlier issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government to attend to our plights, but most unfortunately, our government has been adamant.” Nevertheless, they said, “We have started the indefinite protest, and day 1 has proven to be peaceful and successful as federal workers across the federation joined the protest nationwide, occupying the various federal government secretariats across the federation despite heavy deployment of security operatives.”

“This protest is unending, and we won’t stop until the FG complies with our demands.

“We have simple demands. The Immediate payment of the outstanding five months’ wage award arrears.

“The implementation of a 40% peculiar allowance and the payment of its arrears. the prompt examination of the high taxes on the low pay of federal employees.

We will continue to urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider his views regarding Nigerian workers; all he has done is set a poor example, be anti-workers, and egregiously encourage suffering among federal government employees.
