At least five teenagers tragically lost their lives in a boat mishap that occurred in Nafada town, Gombe State, on a Saturday.
The victims of the unfortunate incident were identified as:

* Hauwa’u Dogal, 15
* Ummati Baraya, 16
* Umaira Gidado, 16
* Amina Jaliya, 15
Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, conveyed his profound sorrow over the accident in a condolence message issued on Sunday by his media aide, Mr. Ismaila Uba-Misilli.
The Governor described the incident as “painful and heart-wrenching,” noting the particular devastation caused by the tender ages of the deceased. He offered his sympathies to the parents and the entire Nafada community, stating that the tragedy “has cut short the lives of promising young people” and represents a loss for the entire state.
Governor Yahaya offered prayers for the eternal rest of the deceased and for their families to find the strength to bear the loss.
Furthermore, he stressed the critical need for strict compliance with water transport safety standards to prevent future accidents. The Governor called on local councils, community leaders, boat operators, and regulators to rigorously enforce safety protocols across all riverine areas.
To provide immediate relief, Governor Yahaya ordered the State Emergency Management Agency and the Nafada Local Government Council to offer necessary support to the affected families.
