In the rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League game at Umuahia Township Stadium on Thursday, the Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia defeated the defending champions, Remo Stars, 2-0. The triumph comes four days after Warriors’ 2-1 aggregate loss to Djoliba of Mali sent them crashing out of the CAF Confederation Cup. Remo Stars suffered their second loss of the season as Warriors’ maverick attacker Emeka Obioma and captain of the day Sunday Megwo each scored one goal in each half of the match. The home goalkeeper, Okiemute Odah, produced a point-blank save in the 53rd minute that stunned Remo Stars, who had come out battling in the second halfAfter Suraj Lawal was fouled in the Remo Stars’ area, Sunday Megwo scored a penalty kick to give Warrior their second goal. Speaking to reporters following the game, several Abia Warriors supporters commended their side for upsetting the defending NPFL champions and said the win made up for their early CAF Confederations Cup elimination.
