All cattle markets in Kwara South Senatorial District have been shut down due to rising insecurity, according to DAILY POST.
In a joint statement issued under the *Forum of Seven Local Government Chairmen*, the council leaders announced the immediate closure of all Kara (cattle) markets across the seven LGAs, effective Friday, September 19, 2025.
They explained that while criminal elements had been significantly weakened in recent weeks, military and hybrid operatives are still carrying out mop-up operations. As part of wider security measures, all other produce markets are to close by 6:00 p.m. on market days.
The council chairmen described the move as a difficult but necessary step to safeguard lives, property, and trade within the district. They stressed that the closure is temporary and will be reviewed regularly, with markets reopening once security conditions improve.
Acknowledging the economic hardship the decision may cause, the chairmen said they had chosen to prioritize long-term safety over short-term convenience. They assured residents that both local and state governments, in collaboration with security agencies, are working tirelessly to restore lasting peace.
They further urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and security operatives in ensuring the district’s stability.
