Iyanya explains why he missed the finals of Nigerian Idols Season 1

After auditioning in Calabar, Cross River State, Afrobeats singer Iyanya has disclosed that he was chosen for the inaugural season of Nigerian Idols.

He clarified that he and Omawunmi, who later became the first runner-up in the inaugural edition in 2007, were the only two contestants chosen from the Calabar audition.

The singer, however, explained that he couldn’t take part in the reality show finals because they coincided with his university final year exams.

He said a year later, he won the first edition of Project Fame West Africa.

He stated this in a recent interview with Hip TV while relishing being co-judge of the the ongoing season of the Nigerian Idols with Omawunmi.

Iyanya said, “Omawumi and I were the only ones picked at the Calabar Nigerian Idol auditions. I couldn’t make it. I had my final year exam. A year later, I won Project Fame. Today, we’re both judges on Nigerian Idol.”
