In order to modernize agriculture and improve food security, Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to utilizing international collaborations.

In a press release sent to BASEMEDIA on Wednesday, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, the governor’s chief press secretary, made this claim.

In Senegal, the governor revealed this while leading a high-level delegation to the Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar to investigate new agricultural collaborations that would transform the state’s food systems and promote equitable economic development, the statement said.

Under the goal of creating “a Greater Jigawa,” he clarified, agriculture is a key component of his administration’s 12-Point Agenda.

According to Namadi, “Jigawa is already Nigeria’s leading producer of sesame, hibiscus flower, rice, and wheat.”

“We’ll keep building on these successes and making the most of our enormous amount of arable land and hardy farming community.”

According to the statement, Governor Namadi discussed ways to improve cooperation between Jigawa and AGRA with Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn, Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), during the summit.

Practical methods to increase productivity, improve market access, and make rice and wheat farmers more competitive were the main topics of discussion.

African leaders, development partners, and private sector stakeholders come together for the summit, which takes place from September 1–4, 2025, to discuss creating resilient and sustainable food systems.
