Barcelona President Joan Laporta has described the “comeback” mantra at Real Madrid as “nonsense”, as he insisted on focusing on his team’s progress in the UEFA Champions League.
Note that FC Barcelona have qualified for the Champions League semi-finals, while Real Madrid have a slim chance of doing so tonight. They lost the first leg of the tie against Arsenal with a 3-0 scoreline.
Real Madrid has been pushing for a “comeback” despite the historic deficit, meaning they hope to defeat Arsenal in the Santiago Bernabeu later tonight by at least a 4-0 score.
Despite Los Blancos’ reputation for historical comeback potential, Laporta seems more concerned with his team’s accomplishments.
In an interview with Diario AS, Laporta was asked about Real Madrid’s “comeback” campaign. He laughed and responded, “Enough with that nonsense and let me enjoy the semi-finals, you’re always doing the same thing.”
“I enjoy football and I watch it all the time. And even more so today, knowing that the most crucial thing is that we’re already in the semi-finals. We’re on course to battle for the objectives we’ve set for ourselves this season, I should add. We still haven’t accomplished them. And we may argue that anything is possible in this day and age.
“All I can say is that we’re doing a great job and that we’re really happy with the players’ commitment, skill, and the brilliant manner Hansi Flick is leading our team. And to be honest, watching Barca is enjoyable.
