Azuka Ogujiuba, a journalist and the creator of Media Room Hub, revealed how two police officers planned her three-day detention because she posted a court order on her Instagram page.
Ogujiuba told reporters about her experience and claimed that many journalists have been illegally detained for doing nothing.
“I received an invitation letter from the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Office.
Moses Jolugbo and Ifeoma Ogoli were in charge of the case when I visited on August 6. I went because I respect the constitution and I have a lot of respect for the police.
Adewale Oladapo filed a petition accusing me of defaming my reputation and engaging in cyberbullying. They displayed my media-hub Instagram page, where I posted a court injunction.
“I informed them that what I had posted was a court order rather than cyberbullying. I informed them that although it wasn’t written by me, the court had approved it and that nearly 20 media outlets had published it.
“Why am I the only one being petitioned?” I inquired. I departed after they requested that I obtain a surety.
“The two police officers who had just questioned me arrived at the office two days later while I was there for an exclusive interview.
They harassed me, dragged my phone, and chased me like a terrorist. Even the individual I spoke with believed they were kidnappers. They escorted me to their office, where they remained silent for nearly forty-five minutes. They later confronted me, accusing me of failing to enforce the court order I had published.
I had been traumatized. I had trouble falling asleep. The IGP is probably unaware that this is taking place in his office. I was the victim of misused authority. They are damaging the reputation of the Nigerian police.
“I am aware that Ifeoma Ogoli and Moses Jolugbo planned my detention. I was forced to comply when the police officers aimed their guns at me. When I requested to talk to my lawyer or family, they turned me away and kept me in the cell for three days without food. I’m not sure how I made it through it.
