Kaduna: Kachia residents lament neglect, ask for media and government attention.

Residents of Kachia Local Government Area in Kaduna State have expressed concern about the underreporting of recurring bandit attacks and kidnappings, pleading with major media organisations to highlight their plight.

In a statement signed by Rev. Fr. Agbo Gabriel, the residents said that in the early hours of Sunday, September 7, armed bandits invaded Wakeh village in Agunu District, killing eight people, injuring several others, and destroying houses and property.

According to the statement, similar attacks have continued in Ankwa, Bishini, Katari, and other villages, leaving residents displaced, traumatised, and desperate.

The impoverished residents of Kachia town, who once housed internally displaced people from nearby villages, are now the targets of attacks, according to Rev. Fr. Gabriel. Every day, children are abducted from homes and farms, but there is hardly any media attention. We are compelled to inquire: where are the reporters and correspondents from the main media outlets in Kaduna and Kachia?

The community emphasized Kachia’s agricultural and economic significance to the state and urged Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, to act quickly to address the security issues.

In order to safeguard vulnerable villages, they also demanded increased community-based surveillance, participation from local leaders, and teamwork.

In addition, Rev. Fr. Gabriel emphasized residents’ unity and vigilance, calling on them to report suspicious activity and assist one another in protecting their communities.

The statement came to the conclusion that “Kachia is a land of great potential and does not deserve such neglect.” “Media outlets, please pay attention to us. There is also Kachia.
